16 NANJING – Remembrance

Nanjing is arguably one of the most important cities in the history of post-Dynastic China.

The theme of Remembrance captures the essence of Nanjing as it is home to the tomb of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of Modern China (pre-Communist era) as well as where the controversial Nanjing Massacre of 1937 during the Second Sino-Japanese War occurred.

Dichotomies:

  • Dynastic vs Modern
  • Old Ideology vs New & Foreign Ideology
  • Past (Remembrance) vs Future (Moving on)
  • Day vs Night Life & Culture
  • Authenticity vs Commercialization
