PENINSULA RETAIL STORE ON QUEEN: Seed9 Photography

Designed for a private client (Seed9 Photography) for their magazine spread through a week-long individual collaboration, this four-story sustainable department store on a Queen St West brownfield site fuses the urban lifestyle of Toronto with a tropical one. Left at a schematic phase, Peninsula offers a variety of services to reflect the diversity of Torontonian shoppers.

Peninsula epitomizes the concept of adaptive reuse strategy to a once lifeless site. The building is literally ‘green’, such that it not only serves as an urban jungle retreat, but it is also capable of producing its own energy and recycle its own wastewater. Filtered water can either be utilized and/or distributed to nearby stores and can be stored into the “Eco-Zoo”, an indoor tropical pond and the center piece of Peninsula.
